Solving social issues related to food and cooking

Acceleration program sponsored by Cookpad in June, 2018 "Cook pad accelerator"Demoday was held.

Cookpad is a lead company of FoodTech in Japan that has unfamiliar knowledge, service development focusing on recipe posting / search. However, according to Mr. Sumi of the cook pad accelerator manager, "Cookpad is solving only a part of the social task of food and cooking". The company has solved other social issues such as "Decreasing culinary skills" mainly, "Standardization of distribution and sale of foodstuffs" and "Loss of cooking culture".

Before the Cookpad started the acceleration program, it was a camp that volunteers including executives participated in this campaignTo grasp the whole picture of "social issues related to food and cooking". Here is created the following "map of social tasks related to food and cooking".

To solve these social problems, it is difficult only with the cook pad. So the answer that Cookpad found was to work on problem resolution in collaboration with startup through acceleration program.

 

Commit to help startup and solve social issues together

Thirty entries were submitted to the Cookpad Accelerator, 36 companies were accepted for document screening, and 13 companies participated in the pitch review. Five companies are finally adopted.The unique point of the Cookpad Accelerator compared to a number of accelerated programs is that Mr. Sumi of the responsible person mentioned as follows.

1. Problem solving and value creation
Discussed with the start-up from the entry stage how to solve the above-mentioned social issues together with the cook pad. It's not about what the cook pads have, but the main focus is "to solve social issues with start-up." It is said that adoption will not be adopted even with a proven startup unless this social task can be dealt with.

2. Hands-on with high commitment
Supporting companies adopt Hands-on centering on Mr. Sumi. For example, we do a user interview jointly with Adwell Inc. every week. Improve by the next week, repeating the cycle.

Open the office to the adopted company
The address of Vivit Garden Company and Adwell Company is in the cook pad (at the time of demo day), and both companies are actually working at Shima next to Mr. Housu. This floor is not an accelerator dedicated floor or isolated space, it is a normal office where other employees work. Although there are many instances of opening up the office to the startup with the acceleration program, in such cases, from the viewpoint of security and the like, in most cases cases are isolated from ordinary offices (they are not criticizing and reasonable judgment I think that). However, the Cookpad also opens the usual floor for startup. "Since I am next to him right away, I can speak freely and startup can easily access employees and available resources of Cookpad" (Mr. Sumi).

In general it is said that the success rate of habitualization is 8%, but the habitualization ratio of Munchale is nearly 70%. Also, it is confirmed that when people act from their own, happiness degree is confirmed, Minkale also consequently contributes to the user's happiness increase as a result.

Plantio / PLANTIO HOME

I'm surprised to make a new agriculturePlantio. From 2018 gradually released the stealth mode, it is in the exposure period.

What the company is trying to make is a culture of agricultural activities. I am trying to make opportunities to contact agriculture in a more urban area rather than an agricultural experience. For example, we are planning to plant farms on the roof of a building and provide vegetables harvested there at nearby eateries. In addition, IoT planter "PLANTIO HOME" which can manage the harvest season and water volume of vegetables will prepare an environment where you can easily grow agricultural crops at home.

Consumers can easily purchase organic vegetables and can communicate with farmers.

· Put a banner for eating chokes inside the cookpad service, and perform user tests. For example, when selling unusual ingredients, we do not know how to cook in the first place, so we confirmed that it is better to infer the recipe than the ingredients themselves.
· Implemented a workshop with Cookpad users and farmers using traditional vegetables. Users who participated in the workshop got engagement high and confirmed the actions such as posting recipes voluntarily.

AdWell / SIRU +

Adwell will tackle food health care, nutrition management from shopping "SIRU +(Cyrus) ". Automatically collect and analyze food information from purchase history of ordinary shopping. They grasp the tendency of their own shopping, have functions such as including missing nutrients and recommending foods they like. Currently we collect purchasing information by cooperating with point card etc. In the future we will make it possible to gather information from electronic payment and so on so that big data gathered here can be used for marketing etc. We will make it a monetization point.

Demoday is the beginning. Building ongoing relationships from here

We have introduced the five companies adopted for the acceleration program. Both of these are companies that are facing the "social issues related to food and cooking" mentioned above.

Demoday is not a graduation. Rather, until now it is a trial period in a sense, from here it is the real beginning. First of all, I am doing the open program because I think that we can solve social problems of food and cooking in cooperation with various people, including those who came to demonstration day.

We will continue to work on various start-ups and social issues, including five companies that we have presented today for Cookpad. (Mr. Sumi)

 

This time's cook pad accelerator is still the first time. Although the plan after the next time is still unpublished at the present time, I would like to expect to build a "world where everyone enjoys cooking enjoying" in the future by working on start-ups and open innovation.
